GMR Airports Limited (GAL) has officially received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) to manage the Cargo Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport. This selection follows a competitive bidding process initiated in late 2025 to find a permanent operator for the facility. The project marks a significant milestone in GAL’s operational footprint at India’s busiest aviation hub.
The concession involves the upgrading, modernizing, financing, and maintenance of Cargo Terminal 1. DIAL had previously terminated its agreement with M/s Celebi in May 2025 following government directives, briefly appointing GAL as an interim operator to ensure business continuity. Under the new formal agreement, GAL will operate the terminal on a revenue-share model with DIAL until 2036. The project is expected to be highly lucrative, with an estimated revenue share of ₹340 Crore projected for the first full year of operations.
GMR Airports Limited, formerly known as GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited, is a leading global airport developer and operator. Throughout 2025, the company focused heavily on consolidating its aviation assets and enhancing its international profile. Beyond the New Delhi hub, the company has been active in expanding its regional presence and finalizing structural mergers to streamline its airport platform. The “GMR Aero” brand continues to dominate the Indian private aviation infrastructure space, frequently securing high-value service orders and modernization contracts across its portfolio of managed airports.
For the most recent quarterly financial results announced in 2025, the company showed resilient performance amidst its corporate restructuring. While specific figures fluctuate based on the accounting of the merger, the company reported a steady trajectory in passenger traffic recovery. Notable institutional investors, including Groupe ADP and various major infrastructure funds, remain key stakeholders, reflecting confidence in GMR’s long-term growth. The revenue growth has been supported by a sharp uptick in non-aero segments, including retail and cargo, which this latest Delhi terminal award will further bolster.
