Ashoka Buildcon Limited recently disclosed the cancellation of a key infrastructure project originally awarded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The project involved the design and construction of the Creek Bridge from Kolshet to Kalher with a contract value of INR 288.18 Crores plus GST. The cancellation was announced due to administrative reasons, specifically a revised alignment causing a 39% increase in deck area and 33.5% overall cost escalation that significantly deviated from the approved contractual scope. MMRDA plans to re-invite the bid for this project. This cancellation is unrelated to Ashoka Buildcon’s performance or contractual compliance.
The notice details that the original Letter of Acceptance (LOA) was issued on October 14, 2024. However, following the MMRDA Executive Committee’s decision, the project was cancelled as the revised scope of work substantially altered the originally sanctioned plan leading to the cost escalation. The financial impacts of this termination are yet to be evaluated.
