Birla Corporation Limited has officially informed the stock exchanges about the commencement of mining operations at its Bikram Coal Mine. Located in Burhar, Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, the mine began its operational phase on 23rd April, 2026, at approximately 12:32 p.m. (IST) . This development was formally disclosed under Regulation 30 and 51 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The Bikram Coal Mine is a significant asset for the company, boasting an annual production capacity of 9.44 Million Tonnes of thermal coal. This commencement follows a series of strategic regulatory steps, including the recent receipt of penalty orders from the Rajasthan Mining Department for alleged violations in other regions, which the company is currently disputing in court. The operationalization of the Madhya Pradesh mine represents a key milestone in the company’s efforts to secure its fuel supply chain.
Birla Corporation Limited, the flagship company of the MP Birla Group, is a prominent Indian manufacturer primarily engaged in the production of cement and jute goods. In 2025, the company remained focused on operational efficiency, seeing its subsidiary successfully win a mining block bid in September. However, it also faced challenges, such as the rejection of a bid by the Rajasthan government for a separate mining project in December 2025 and the extension of the service term for its Senior Management Personnel at Birla Jute Mills.
For the quarter ended December 2025 (Q3 FY26), the company reported a consolidated revenue of ₹2,177.89 Crore, reflecting a 4.1% year-on-year decline due to softer demand and pricing pressures in the cement industry. Despite the revenue dip, net profit for the quarter surged by 69.2% YoY to ₹52.76 Crore, driven by significant cost rationalization and a reduction in operational expenses. The company’s promoter group includes entities like Laneseda Agents Limited and The Punjab Produce and Trading Co Pvt Ltd, while the broader group continues to be led by Chairperson Kumar Mangalam Birla.
